2018 New Jersey Regional SeaPerch Competition at Rowan University

So, today we’re at the SeaPerch 2018 competition. It’s a competition sponsored by NAVAIR for
middle school and high school students and it’s essentially a competition
to get them involved with robotics. So, the students’ challenge is
to build what’s called an ROV. It stands for a remotely operated vehicle. My experience in SeaPerch definitely piqued
my interest in engineering. In fact, it was probably one of the deciding
factors to pursue engineering. It really got me interested in science, technology,
engineering and math or STEM. It was just really interesting to watch the
formulas and equations that they always talk about in real life. I feel like it’s extremely beneficial for
us because whether we choose to become an engineer or not, the qualities that we have learned
from this experience are sure to help us with whatever we choose to be. I think the most exciting part about SeaPerch
is seeing the students’ first opportunity to get involved in engineering at such a young age. So, we have these students who are presenting
about how they soldered or how they built a printed circuit board or voltages and power,
and all these things that I didn’t actually have the opportunity to learn about until my later years
in high school or until college. These students are getting their firsthand
at engineering. It’s really exciting to see their passion
develop through this competition.
