EMS Week 2015 – Portsmouth Regional Hospital

EMS Week 2015 – Portsmouth Regional Hospital

(triumphant music) – EMS providers are actually
quite special people. They really are. I mean, these are people that get up in the middle of the night, upside down in the ditch getting somebody out of a
car whose trapped in a car. Takes a special person to do that. – EMS personnel play a vital role in delivering this Level 2
trauma care to our patients. In a demanding job, they’re the first people on the scene, they have no idea what
they’re walking into. And, right there, they start to initiate this life-saving treatment, stabilizing the patient, early notification to the hospital so that we can have
the right medical staff and equipment in place even before the patient gets here. And what that does is that improves our patient outcomes. – We have a very responsive EMS team. We have a hospital that’s completely, fully equipped to respond
to any traumatic injury. And we have an extraordinary group of skilled physicians that are able to respond immediately. – We have 24 hour trauma surgeons. Our ICU doctors are here 24 hours a day. We have enhanced CT services. More training for the nursing staff. Just an overall higher level
of care for our patients. – EMS is the only reason it works, because they’re really
good at what they do. – In the field, EMS is the first link to us. – I think to have Level 2
trauma is extremely valuable to have in our community, to be able to transport
those patients nearby to a Level 2 facility. – With their Level 2 certification, now, we are able to get them the definitive care they need, here at the hospital, faster. – And the best. Absolutely, the best. – The EMS people are very well trained in dealing with trauma. They’re very well trained at recognizing significant trauma, and starting the treatment
process pre-hospitaly, and then we take over once they hit the emergency department. – It’s a huge benefit for the community. – If you’ve had a traumatic injury, then you know that’s not
just a physical toll, but it’s an emotional toll. And by us achieving a
Level 2 certification, what that means is we can
offer a higher level of care to the community. Now we can keep these
patients here in the community where they can be near their resources, their family, their friends, their primary care doctors. And that’s really huge for
the patients in the community. – It will save lives. It will absolutely save lives. It already has. – We’re Portsmouth proud. – We are Portsmouth proud. – We’re Portsmouth proud. – We’re Portsmouth proud. – We’re Portsmouth proud. – We’re Portsmouth proud. – We are Portsmouth proud.
