General Surgeon – Frankfort Regional Medical Center

Bryan Shouse, MD Get to know Dr. Shouse and
why he chose general surgery – I grew up in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, which is just down the
road, so I’m a local boy. I went to Transylvania University for undergrad, and then I went to the University of Louisville
School of Medicine for medical school. I went on a military scholarship, so, I spent the next 10 years in the Navy, and during that time I
did my surgery training, and I also spent three years on navy ships as a medical provider for our fleet. And I got out in 2000
and I came back home, living in Lawrenceburg and
working here in Frankfort. And I feel like it’s
really a blessing for me to be able to work in the
same place where I grew up. When you go through medical
school you get exposed to a lot of different areas in medicine, and I enjoyed everything that I did, but the only time I
didn’t really mind working at 3 o’clock in the morning was when I was on the surgery service. One of the things I like the
most about general surgery is we do a variety of
different procedures. You may do two or three
gallbladders or hernia repairs. We’d also take care of colon
cancer and breast cancer. And you’re rarely doing
the same thing over and over again on the same day. I like to read, like to play sports, not very good at any of them, but I very much enjoy
baseball and basketball. Most of the time, over the last 10 years, I’ve spent chasing my children around. Want more information?
