Inner South-east Metropolitan Partnership event 2019

Today’s partnership is our third conversation
with community and we decided that we would like to drill deeper into one of the priorities
and get some really in-depth lived experience and ideas about how we can address the issue
of social isolation and loneliness. We’re going to hear from some experts about
loneliness as a social issue and the prevalence in the community and the impacts that it has
on people’s health and wellbeing. And, then I think we’re going to explore
what we might be able to do together as a region to address that. Bayside City Council are looking to get out
of this session some practical ways in which we can tackle social isolation. We’d really love to learn some practical
ways that you can ethically approach people who are socially isolated and mechanisms for
which you can take them out of that path way. Both personally and professionally I feel
a real connection to this topic and really encouraged to see the community conversations
taking place around this. I’m passionate about local community solutions
to local community issues. I’ve come from health and I’ve managed
mental health programs for a long time and I was just interested to hear a little bit
more about the evidence for loneliness and social isolation as well as being part of
the group to think about how we tackle that from an individual community or social level
and within family constructs as well.
