Nigel Farage: EU kills democracy in Greece

I noticed during your speech Mr Barroso there
was an all pervading sense of gloom. I saw for the first time, even your supporters shaking
their heads, they don’t believe it what you are saying, the European people don’t believe
in what you are saying, and I don’t really think even you now believe in what you are
saying. We all know that Greece is going to default;
the end game for Greece is near. And you can’t say you were not warned. You were told that
Treaties were fatally flawed, you were all told that Greece should never have joined
the Euro and when I stood up here and talked about Greek bond spreads you treated me with
such utter derision it was as if I had just been let out of the local lunatic asylum.
No, you have been warned all the way through. So now what you have got is Economic Governance
and everybody here on the front row supports more European Economic Governance. What is
European Economic Governance? I’ll tell you what it is. It is a plane landing at Athens airport out
of which get an official from the Commission, an official from the ECB and an official from
the appalling IMF. Those three people, the Troika you call them, go in meet the Greek
Government and tell the Greek Government what they may of may not do. You have killed Democracy
in Greece. You have three part-time overseas dictators now telling the Greek people what
they can and cannot do. It is totally unacceptable. It is any wonder that the Greek people are
burning EU flags and drawing swastikas on them. Unless Greece is allowed to get out
of this economic and political prison, you may well spark a revolution in that country. I suppose there is some good news at least,
and that is that people in Germany, right up to the President are waking up realise
that this process represents the death of democracy. None of this can work and the German
people will simply refuse in the end to pay the bill. The one achievement is that you
have split Europe between North and South, the Greeks now badmouth the Germans, the Germans
now badmouth the Greeks. I have one last plea Mr Barroso, will you
please help Greece. Help her to get her currency back, help her to reschedule her debts, help
her to get out of the mess you have put her into. You policies have failed, stand up,
be a man, admit it.

  1. I am Greek and don't agree with him. The problem was not the euro but former Greek policy. I blame the governments of Greece, not the euro.

  2. The problem is that certain european leaders couldn't "fight back" to the speculators attack not to Greece or Ireland but to EURO itself… and now are just trying to find escape goats in Greece,Ireland,Portugal,Spain and in the future maybe Italy to justify themselves to their voters.

  3. Haha he says that economic governance are dictators that will tell the greek goverment what to do. And that EU killed democracy but wait!!!!, democracy is a dictatorship in wich you vote for your dictators!!!!!!

  4. Seems like the Anglo/American press and right wing constantly want to emphasize that Germany is 'fed up' with bailing out Greece (as though it's only Germany pulling the weight) and the Euro is a failed project in the hopes of it becoming accepted truth.

I remember last year when we had a similar ordeal, and BloombergTV was parading one market specialist after the other predicting how the Euro would reach dollar parity or worse by summer of 2010, and instead the Euro ended up above $1.40

  5. I like him too, but he has two major flaws:
    1) he has Mr. Borghezio in his parlamentary group
    2) All due criticism of lack of democracy and all the exposing of less than transparent mechanisms of european bodies is aimed at the destruction of the euro project, not at its emendement.
Fine guy nevertheless: I love the face of Rampuy when Farell says "We expected the man who would represent europe before the world but we have got you instead… who are you?" priceless!

  6. @1482 this is not completely true: I'd love a truly democratic european union were both states and citizens were represented and where commission and council were accountable and removable in front of parliament and not like now unamovable servants of less than transparent interest, able to bypass the parlaiment at will.

  7. @Seventh7Art But Greece failed every test for being admitted to the Euro yet still the Eurocrats let her join.So it is not just the Greek government which is to blame

  8. 7 dislikes? Ha! Must be Angela Merkel, Christine Lagarde, Nicolas Sarkozy, Herman Van Rompuy, Wolfgang Schäuble, George Soros and George Panandreou!

  9. I hope Americans are watching this. Our democracy has been taken over by international corporations. The will of the people no longer determines our future. Please join your nearest occupy site and send a message that we will not give up our freedom and soverngty so easily. Occupy is peaceful now but if the government continues the violence against peaceful protesters, I fear they will not remain so for long. Without your voice, peaceful protest in America could turn into violent riots. Peace!

  10. @ShwangShwing Let the banks default not the greek workin class. Banks have already earned billions from the high interest loans and the rip off of Greek economy . however we know tha the working class will win in the end , we are just before a 3 W.W. which will be a class war. People shall get guns, ammunition and start planning attacks against Greece's enemies. we can name few of them, Goldman Shacks, F.T., P&S. and many others. Start with bombs and eliminatino of their executives

  11. a guy talking about serious matters and the rest of the supposed serious members yeling and laughing like its a kindergarden?

i have to say that u can say there is an actual rivalry betweeen the two nations. just because u dont love some1 doesnt mean that u hate him. thats my opinion anyway
