Robotic Surgery | Columbus Regional Health

it’s like the evolution of of surgery
itself we always start on surgery abdominally and
then we went to a laparoscopically and now we’re going to roboticly so it’s a
natural progression of things honestly for us it’s just a allows us to do more complex
cases through smaller incisions it moves us from the straightforward
days to the more advanced days so we do almost all of our hysterectomies
now roboticly but we can do any of our cases honestly
roboticly it just allows us a greater do degree of precision and what
we’re doing on the inside it benefits the patient more than anything they
get quicker recovery time back to the normal lifestyle much faster mechanically I actually literally
have an arm and a wrist inside the patient where the old laparoscopy it was straight
instruments no risk no articulation at all but with the da Vinci you’ll see that
ah… that they basically has wrists on the end of our instruments like
having hands inside the body this is just an extension of us so really were controlling the robot
that’s doing the surgery itself so that’s a total world of difference and then the other thing is uh…
optically it’s a 3D vision high-definition optics which is much
much better than just the flat 2D screen trying to figure out depth of field and
everything on a 2D screen is really hard to do so the optics are much much better so
mechanically we can do more an optically we can see better talk about from patient’s standpoint how
much better it is for the patient from a surgeon’s standpoint it’s a hundred
percent better because I actually sit down I look into a screen I see a
three-dimensionally and it’s ergonomically efficient i’m not my
backs not hurting i’m not tired at the end of the day so from a physician’s standpoint i’m not fatigued i’m not tired which makes a case for that much easier
we always see evolving procedures in medicine nothing ever stays the same
from one day to the next and you know looking at it it is the
natural progression of things so at first i thought this is going to
be a fad then i got to see some cases done and see what they could do with it and i
think well this is more than just a fad this is the way we should be
doing our surgeries now days.
