S. Korea’s National Assembly passes US$ 429.9 bil. budget bill for 2020


eight days after the legal deadline
South Korea’s National Assembly late Tuesday finally passed next year’s
budget bill worth four hundred twenty nine point nine billion u.s. dollars
initially the government proposed a budget worth 431 billion but the ruling
democratic party together with four minor opposition parties excluding the
main opposition Liberty Korea party formed the four plus one consultative
body and cement their own budget bill to be passed before the last day of the
regular session now the budget for 2020 is an increase of 9.1 percent from this
year the bill passed it was 156 votes but is receiving a strong backlash from
the main opposition for ignoring their consent the ruling party and National
Assembly Speaker Moo ji sang put the proposal up for a vote after lengthy
negotiations with the main opposition ended without a compromise the same day
the assembly also passed a 16 non-contentious bills including safety
bills such as a so-called min sick bill a revised
Road Traffic Act which seeks to ensure children’s safety and school zones as
well as a revised parking law Act or the Hodgenville which seeks to install anti
skid facilities to strengthen safety in parking lots
