As one door closes, another one opens Cities in Europe have become heavily urbanized while not taking into account their citizens’ needs. Are we able to imagine more sustainable, human friendly and healthier cities through open innovation? The joint cooperation of three Lighthouse and four Follower cities form Stardust, a European Lighthouse project which will provide a blueprint in building the Cities of Tomorrow. It will transform our carbon supplied cities into smarter ones thus improving the citizens’ quality of life By 2021, Stardust plans to reduce carbon emissions by 63% and energy consumption by 58% and will spread the light of innovation across other cities in Europe. It will not only light up the cities’ street lights, but also our hopes in creating a better future for us and for future generations. It will do so by developing innovative smart solutions such as decarbonized urban energy grids, greener mobility, smarter buildings and novel ICT services and business models whilst keeping the citizens and their needs at the heart of the city’s transformation. Painting a brighter picture isn’t that hard now, is it?
