Working With Undocumented Students: Learn About National, State, Local Organizations

Hi, my name is Ana Clara blesso, and I work at the Center for Career Development at the University of Connecticut Thanks to my lived experience I’ve developed some expertise in working with our undocumented student population One of the best practices that I recommend for professionals in our field it’s to get to know some of the organizations both on a national level and State-based that are doing some of the advocacy work on behalf of the student population Nationally there are two organizations that I really like and support One is called United We Dream the other one is called the National Immigration Law Center but state-based I really recommend that individuals get to know some organizations that can share some of the policies that are happening In your neck of the woods since it can change so much based on each state here in Connecticut the organization is called Connecticut students for a dream and they offer trainings and webinars and even a conference for educators So I would look and see what’s available in your own State These trainings can help us stay more informed and get to know some of the intricacies so we can help our students navigate This higher education system as undocumented people
